"Suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. Suddenly someone will say 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp,' out of the blue. No explanation and there's no point in looking for one either. It's all part of the cosmic unconsciousness." Tracey Walter as "Miller" in "Repo Man"

The picture of dog racing pricks all of our consciences. What a cruelty to such a companionable creature.

I used to take my sight-hounds (back when I had several) to go lure-coursing and they pretty much loved it. If they don't like it they won't do it; they'll just hang out.
I'm not trying to be argumentative, and I am certaily not defending the greyhound racing industry. That's just abysmal, and those dogs aren't treated at pets. They spend a lot of time in crates. Disgusting, really.
Lure-coursing is recreational, and kinda like a high-school cross-country meet for borzois, salukis, afghans, whippets, deerhounds, and other sight-hounds; greyhounds too.
The borzois in the photo appear to be coursing. They wear muzzles to protect their jaws. It's a recent trend, like wearing a helmet when you go skiing.
Thanks for the info, I hadn't known about lure-coursing, and only knew about dogracing of the sort that goes on in tracks, with bad treatment of what oughta be pets. I appreciate being enlightened.
